Alex Geiman, LPAT, LCADC, ATR-BC, IMHP

Therapist

Alex (he/him/his) is a Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT), Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC), and a Registered Art Therapist -Board Certified (ATR-BC). Alex earned his M. Ed. in Counseling and Personnel Services with a concentration in Art Therapy from the University of Louisville in 2018. Since beginning work in the field, he has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, primarily serving individuals in recovery from substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders, such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
Alex believes that everyone’s story is worthy and deserves to be heard. His interests lie in incorporating art-making and experiential techniques in the therapeutic process. His eclectic approach leans heavily on the concept that the needs of each individual are unique to that person and he makes frequent adaptations for the needs of each individual throughout the therapeutic process. He incorporates Expressive therapies/Art therapy, Client-Centered, Existential, Psychodynamic, and Gestalt-informed techniques to provide spaces for healing and understanding. He believes that by utilizing an eclectic therapeutic approach wounds from the past can be acknowledged, tended to, and healed.

Alex specializes in working with adults who are facing challenges with substance use disorders, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and grief. He also specializes in working with people who are unsure about their relationship with drugs and alcohol. He works with individuals to develop a greater sense of emotional connectedness, which allows for individuals to begin to process challenges, traumatic experiences, and grief. Additionally, Alex enjoys working with members of the LGBTQ+ community and anyone in a helping profession (teachers, therapists, medical professionals, etc.), current students pursuing helping professions, and recent graduates adjusting to working life. He enjoys helping people prioritize self-care and develop a sense of self-love.

In his spare time, Alex enjoys engaging in restorative practices including reading, cooking, and artistic expression. He also likes to spend time outside connecting with the earth through hiking, travel, and taking walks.
