Joseph Ayers, LPCA

Therapist

Joseph is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor coming to Bridge from Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Joseph graduated from Western Kentucky University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a Minor in Clinical and Community Behavioral Health and a Master of Arts in Education in Counseling. Outside of therapy, Joseph has a love for music, comics, conventions, and all kinds of movies and shows and a soft spot for anything on the “nerdy” spectrum.

Joseph has worked and interned at Bowling Green High School and 11th Street Alternative School. At the Junior High, Joseph was apart of a 6 session therapy course called My Mind Matters to enhance the educational experience of African American 7th grade students. As a mentor in the program, Joseph adapted the importance of recognizing the dignity, morality, brilliance of each student. He also has experience in private practice with a focus on play therapy and art play and group family sessions.

Joseph meets each client with respect and openness. He believes in breaking down the stigmas of therapy and being the kind of therapist you need, to get where YOU need to go. He believes that counseling should focus on more than talk therapy. Some alternative techniques and strategies could include: breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, self-love, nature walks, and video gaming therapy.

Therapy with Joseph is LGBTQIA+ friendly. He has a passion for child therapy, with a focus on children going through divorce and struggling with mental health. Joseph can work with all ages, families, and groups. As a mental health therapist, his approach to therapy is person-centered and can include improving 5 core competencies.
