Laurel Sims-Stewart M.Ed., ATR, LPCC, IMHP

Therapist and AIMH Liaison

Taking the first step toward personal healing or help for your child can feel overwhelming, but with the right support it doesn’t have to be. Laurel strives to create a safe, welcoming, and person-centered environment for each individual with whom she works with. Her goal is to walk with you on this journey of healing, empowering you or your child to feel confident in making positive changes.

Laurel (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a background in art therapy. She completed her M.Ed. in Counseling with a Concentration in Art Therapy from the University of Louisville in 2012. Since then she has had the opportunity to work in both inpatient and outpatient settings with children, adolescents, and adults. Prior to completing her master’s, Laurel gained experience in the mental health field working with children and adolescents in mental health crisis services, children battling chronic medical issues, and as a sexual assault crisis counselor.

Laurel specializes in the treatment of anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, life transitions and moving into adulthood, chronic dieting and body image issues, and spirituality and faith issues. She has extensive experience working with teens and young adults. Laurel utilizes an integrative, person-centered, and insight-based approach that can include specific therapeutic techniques such as narrative work, psychoeducation, mindfulness, somatic and polyvagal work, CBT and TF-CBT, EFT/tapping, Brainspotting, Intuitive Eating, and expressive techniques. She approaches treatment through a Health At Every Size® lens, which celebrates body diversity and honors differences in size, age, race, ethnicity, gender, dis/ability, sexual orientation, religion, class, and other human attributes (learn more about HAES here: https://haescommunity.com/). Laurel will partner with you to find the strategies that fit best for you or your child.
