Jennifer Owens is a licensed clinical social worker and ecotherapist with a passion for the outdoors and guiding people towards the life they envision for themselves. Jennifer has worked in a variety of settings in both clinical and directorial roles with more than 15 years in holistic health and 8 years in mental health. Her experience working in multidisciplinary settings, informs her body-mind-spirit-nature approach to helping people overcome anxiety, fear and life’s hurdles. She is adjunct faculty at the University of Louisville teaching Human Behavior in the Social Environment.
Jennifer specializes in the holistic treatment of mild to severe anxiety issues; generalized anxiety, OCD, phobias (flying, public speaking, claustrophobia etc.), panic attacks, agoraphobia, PTSD and other trauma reactions, social anxiety, relationship anxiety, chronic stress, excessive worry, and, fear. She will gently guide you towards an understanding of how anxiety affects the body and mind and ways to manage it long term. Anxiety can take a significant toll on a person both physically and mentally. Jennifer will help you reclaim your life from anxiety and thrive; improving the way you feel and doing the things you never thought were possible. Jennifer provides out-of-office experiential therapy and exposure therapy to treat phobias and panic attacks.
Jennifer also specializes in ecotherapy and wilderness therapy to assist with navigation of life transitions, grief, anxiety/depression, finding one’s life purpose and self-improvement. Jennifer loves the natural world and has experienced many healing benefits from her time outdoors, in fact she often credits her adventures in the backcountry to her recovery from severe panic and anxiety. She has a lifetime of experience in the wilderness and backcountry (kayaking, backpacking and hiking), leading outdoor adventure groups and is a certified level 2 Ecotherapist. She has studied with the Earthbody Institute, the Mindful Ecotherapy center and Animas Valley Institute. Jennifer leads multiple monthly guided Shinrin-Yoku or Forest Bathing walks for the community as well as other outdoor and nature connection events. Jennifer has a warm and down to earth approach to therapy and uses evidenced based mind-body techniques including somatic (body) oriented techniques, EMDR, ecotherapy, expressive, spiritual/transpersonal, mindfulness and CBT. Jennifer provides LGBT friendly services and welcomes all individuals to her office.
