Vanessa Blades is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. She completed her Masters of Arts in Counseling: Specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Chicago’s Adler University (previously known as the Adler School of Professional Psychology) in 2014. She has over five years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and adults of diverse orientation, identities and cultures in a variety of settings including an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital, a Residential Treatment Facility, Adult and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Therapy Programs, Community Mental Health Care Facilities, and Therapeutic School Programs, which met the needs of students with educational, developmental, and emotional-behavioral obstacles. Vanessa has worked as a researcher in Northern Ireland investigating the impact of war and sectarianism (The Troubles) on the psychological, emotional, spiritual, and socio-economic well-being of its people as well as the effectiveness of present cross-community (peace) organizations in assisting healing and positive change.

Vanessa is committed to creating a safe space and being an ally and advocate with you as we explore your individual strengths and in working towards a more helpful, balanced, and rewarding present and future. Using her professional and personal experience and knowledge, Vanessa specializes in the treatment of Mood Dysregulation (i.e., Depression, Anxiety, and Explosive Anger), PTSD and other Trauma Reactions, Prolonged Bereavement and Grief Processing, Relationship and Communication Issues, Transition in Life issues, Eating Disorders, Body Dysmorphia, and Self-Esteem issues. Vanessa uses person-centered and evidenced-based interventions and techniques in her practice, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strategic and Structural Family Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Play Therapy (e.g., Sandtray, Puppet Therapy), Parent-Child Interactive Therapy, Progressive Muscle Relaxation techniques, and Expressive Therapy techniques (e.g., movement, art, music, and meditation) to assist individuals and families in moving towards their personal goals.
