Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Therapy Intern
Melissa Stewart is a board-certified speech language pathologist, certified yoga therapist, and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) with specialized training in use of somatic touch work who is currently in graduate school pursuing her master’s degree in social work which she will complete this year. Melissa is particularly interested in somatic experiencing and the impact of trauma in the body and mind.
Melissa’s intention is to provide individuals with the inherent wisdom of the body. Stress, depression, anxiety, trauma and relationship conflicts are issues that exist in both the mind and the body. Traditional therapy engages the mind through talking and telling the story. We live in our bodies and experience the work with our senses. Our nervous system registers how we respond to life events. In somatic work we explore the messages carried in the body, and support choices that create more ease allowing the freedom to live a fuller version of ourselves.
